I would love to say that I invented the hashtag #selfcareisthenewblack, but that honour goes to one of my dearest friends and colleagues Jenny Burrell, who truly walks her talk.Me, on the other hand…..let’s just say I’m a work in progress!! I’ve just come back from a teaching stint in the U.S. – I taught a two day course on Menopause and Hysterectomy in Minneapolis, a two day course in Chicago on Oncology and the Female Pelvic Floor, did two days filming in Boulder, Colorado for a new online course I’m collaborating on (Herbs for Hormone Balance – details coming soon!!) and presented at the Klose Lymphedema conference in Denver. In a three week period. Which seemed like a good idea at the time. Needless to say, like the book says ‘Your Body Keeps the Score’ and I’m paying the bill now – but that’s ok. I’m getting back in the saddle, so to speak, of self care, and realising that as women’s health professionals, we have to occasionally (ahem) practice what we preach… So today’s plans include:
There’s always time for self-recrimination about not making better choices, but to quote Pema Chodron, ‘Start where you are’. So I am going back to the drawing board and I am re-visiting the course on peri-menopausal health I co-created with Jenny Burrell and Jessica Drummond. This course covers everything we as women need to know how to work with women who are pre, peri and post menopausal…but also to learn how to take better care of ourselves #practicenotjustpreach…..So, if you would like to learn more about the health and wellness issues facing the women that you work with (and perhaps some information for yourself as well….), come and join the conversation!!
We have a thriving community of 3rdAge Graduates in our private Facebook group where we collaborate together to spread the message on how to live well, and dare I say it, ENJOY the Menopause!!!

And remember, its only ever to start practicing self care, if you don’t start…
